ONLINE CLA$$ROOM CORPORATION$ PROJECT

Welcome to the ONLINE CLA$$ROOM CORPORATION$ project which is another exciting hands on learning initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and Training Knox Northwest Cluster of Schools.  This project is supported and funded by the Australian Government Boys Education Lighthouse Schools (BELS2) programme which aims to improve learning outcomes for all students in Australian schools.

Participating classes in this project are creating real world links with the manufacturing industry as they select appropriate products to sell to the local and global community.  Classes register as a business, complete detailed business plans and marketing strategies which are then submitted to the student run online BANK for approval.  The students are learning a great deal about Middle Years Numeracy topics such as fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra and graphing as they effectively run their small businesses.  Cooperative skills are being enhanced through collaborative group work.  Participant computer technology skills ranging from video conferencing to Microsoft Excel spreadsheets are also improving.

Each business selects a student representative as a delegate to be part of the CORPORATION or parent company which is designed to promote online sharing of  information and knowledge between classes, ensure fiscal responsibility and the successful running of all businesses.  The Corporation has the responsibility to review progress reports and oversee the donation of company profit to worthy charities developing which it is hoped will foster ethical business practices.

Students, Teachers, Principals and the wider community are working feverishly to implement this project and will continue to update this website as the project develops.  A range of teaching and learning support material and useful websites are included in this website and online help is available to address those difficult questions and issues that will arise during 2005.   This online community of practice project promotes the philosophy that "Everyone leads and Everyone learns" and we value the input of everyone involved. If you would like to comment on this project or find out more please feel free to visit the online support portal for more information.
